Pearse locomotives are designed with ease of service and operation in mind. On most models cab roofs are either removable or tilt to allow access to the water filling cap, the lubricator and sometimes the gas inlet valve. On some engines the gas inlet valve is placed under an opening water tank filler cap, adding to the realism of the locomotive.
 
All filling caps are knurled, and boilers are fitted with water level taps which are piped away below the footplate and lubricators have underfloor drain valves. This means it is possible to keep the cabs clean and free from excess oil and water.
 
All locomotives are 16mm scale, and all outside frame locomotives are adjustable for 32mm or 45mm gauge track. All boilers are center flue type. Displacement lubricators are fitted standard. R/C control is standard.
