Pullman Day Out at Lee Barrett's
Photos and text by Andrew Macpherson

Andrew's David Baker built Gresley P2 Earl Marischal pulls a newly arrived J&M Pullman car set. The train completed three hours running, approximately the distance from London to Newcastle, to help bed in the roller bearing wheel sets that J&M now offer on their coaches. The rake of coaches weighs over 35 lbs, but with one gentle push will glide for several train lengths.

The Earl hurries the Pullmans under the tunnel.

Gary White prepares his immaculate Aster King to haul the Pullmans on a fast run to the west.

Harmony in motion, the King sets off the Pullmans perfectly as they run along the north side of the garden.

A proud owner relishes a perfect run of over an hour and half, more than 90 scale miles at a scale average of 75 mph, almost the exact run of the Cheltnam Flyer, one of the Great Western's crack expresses.

The King rushes past John Coughran, who celebrated his 70th birthday by steaming his coal fired Jack, but the clinker forming Polish mix he was trying out sooted up the tubes, and cut short his birthday run.

The Earl heads out for one last run before the day ends. If you are considering ordering yourself a rake of coaches the J&M's are beautiful, solid, and with the roller bearing wheels very smooth running. (J&M can reached in the UK on 011 44 1258 860536.)
