Why does an overseas subscription to the print magazine cost so much?

The pricing of an overseas subscription is directly driven by our costs with the U.S. Postal Service. In 2007 the USPS eliminated the category of international surface mail, which is how
Steam in the Garden was distributed overseas, and left only international air mail. We take the basic cost of publishing and printing the magazine, add on what the USPS charges us for international air mail and we get a number north of $US70. We’re not making extra money on international subscriptions — all that money goes to USPS (and the receiving country’s post office).
