Mamod makes a saddle tank

Following the success of its “Diamond Jubilee,” Mamod Ltd. of Smethwick, West Midlands, England, said earlier this year it would launch a new saddle tank, which won’t have a name but simply will be referred to as the 2015 model.

The company said the new locomotive will have a slight improvement from the “Diamond Jubilee” version in that the oil reservoir seal will be moved to inside the cab. Previous versions of the saddle tank have had the seal on the outside.

In 1989 Ron and Marie Brown hosted their first steamup at their home in the tiny hamlet of Newark Valley, N.Y. Their original ground-level garden railway was called the “Silo Falls Railway.” In Spring 1998, Ron — the founder of Steam in the Garden — elevated the railway onto an aluminum frame for ease of steaming.

Baton Rouge event highlights steam

Louisiana small-scale live steamers will be highlighted at a one-day event to be held tomorrow in suburban Baton Rouge.

The Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders annual “Trainfest,” is scheduled 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Oct. 10 at the West Florida Historical Museum in Jackson.

Aster says FEFs have shipped

Aster Hobby USA LLC said on Sept. 1 that kits for its live-steam model of the Union Pacific FEF 4-8-4 have shipped from the factory in Japan and that the ready-to-run versions were to have shipped on Sept. 4.

Additionally, the distributor said it has secured "a few extra" of the FEF kits in the black livery; all the black livery No. 844 ready-to-run and greyhound livery No. 837 kits and ready-to-run are sold out, Aster USA said.

Static park loco to be restored

Council members in Colorado Springs, Colo., voted in March to approve a lease to send a historic 1883 steam locomotive, that has been on display in a city park since 1938, to a Colorado heritage railroad for restoration and operation.
